Wrongful Termination Attorneys

Ventura and Santa Barbara County Lawyers Helping the Wrongfully Terminated

At Myers, Widders, Gibson, Jones & Schneider, L.L.P. (“MWGJS”) our focus is on protecting California workers from wrongful termination. While California is an "at will" employment state, meaning that an employer can generally terminate an employee without cause. Just because an employee is "at will" does not mean that they can be fired for the purpose of discriminating against them for reasons like age, pregnancy, sexual orientation, ethnicity or national origin.

At MWGJS, our employment law attorneys advise people about their rights in cases of wrongful termination, retaliatory termination or constructive termination. While most employers will tell their employees that they are “at will” employees and can be terminated at any time with or without cause, this is not always true. There are public policy exceptions to at will employment. For example an employee cannot be terminated for taking advantage of their rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), for requesting a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), or for blowing the whistle on illegal activity or government fraud.
